CELPIP Speaking
CELPIP Speaking: all 8 tasks explained
The CELPIP-General Speaking test has 8 tasks. Each gives you a short preparation time, then 60–90 seconds to record your answer.
How the Speaking test works
The Speaking test has eight short tasks and takes about 15 minutes. For each task, you read a situation on the screen, get 30–60 seconds to prepare, and then record your answer for 60–90 seconds. You speak to the computer, not to a person, and the recording starts and stops automatically.
Raters score your answers in four areas: your ideas and organization, your vocabulary, how easy you are to listen to, and whether you answered the task fully.
Quick tips
- Use your preparation time to plan 2–3 main points — don't try to write full sentences.
- Keep talking until the time is almost over. A short answer can't show your full level.
- Speak to the person in the task, as if they were in front of you.
